Pilates Exercises For Abs
There are many Pilates exercises that are for your abs, which are incredibly beneficial. However, the hardest part can be performing the exercises correctly. It is important to remember that Pilates is meant to be done in a fluid and consistent motion with special consideration given to the protection of your spine and neck. Here are five pilates exercises you can use to master your movements and achieve the rock-hard abs you’ve always wanted.
The Ball Roll: This is a very effective and fun Pilates move! Sit on the floor and pull your ankles in tight to your buttocks. Now, wrap your arms around your knees and hold your legs firmly. Lean back slightly lifting your feet off the floor so you feel as though you are balancing on your tailbone. Here’s the fun part. Lean backwards and in one smooth motion roll onto your back. Be careful not to hit your head or place unnecessary weight on your neck. Now, without letting go of your legs, roll forward again. This Pilates exercise for abs is done best in short reps of five or eight to avoid stress on your spine and tailbone.
The Teaser: To begin this exercise lie flat on your back with your arms straight above your head. Now, lift your legs and arms at the same time until you feel as though your toes and fingers will touch. Hold this position for a few seconds and then relax your abs and lower your legs and arms in unison. Continue, and repeat slowly for five reps of ten.
The Hundred Pump: This Pilates exercise for abs may seem easy, but just try it once and see for yourself. Lie on your back and lift your legs. Lift your buttocks and hips off the floor so that your knees are as close to inline with your chest as possible. While keeping your legs up, raise your arms and lift your body slightly so that you feel as though you are balanced on your shoulder blades. Now, pump your body upwards, feeling the tension release and contract in your abdominals. This is called the hundred pump due to the recommendation that you complete ten reps of ten. Stick with it and you’ll have the abs of your dreams!
